ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for an unforgettable long weekend in West Virginia, the state often called “Almost Heaven” for its rolling hills, scenic byways, and charming mountain towns. As the only state located entirely within the Appalachian Mountains, West Virginia offers the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and spectacular driving roads. This year marks the 7th edition of Schwarzer Berg, and it will be our biggest yet, spanning 4 days and 3 nights. The event ends on Sunday, leaving you Monday’s Memorial Day to recover from the weekend!

From the breathtaking New River Gorge to sweeping hilltop views and engaging backroads, this weekend promises rich history, great food, strong camaraderie, and plenty of Porsche fun. Our headquarters for the event will be the located in the mountain village of Snowshoe, West Virginia.

Nestled high in the Allegheny Mountains, Snowshoe sits at approximately 4,848 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest-elevation towns in the eastern United States. This elevated setting provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, the perfect backdrop for relaxing and socializing after a full day of driving.

Carved through the Greenbrier Valley, West Virginia’s roads deliver nonstop scenery: tree-lined tunnels, rolling hills, flowing curves, and springtime blooms at their peak. Over the Thursday-to-Sunday weekend, participants can expect to cover approximately 1,100 miles of exceptional driving. We will depart from Bristol, VA early on Thursday, May 21, though participants are welcome to meet us along the route (in one of the planned stops) or meet us later in the day at the hotel.

Schwarzer Berg VII is more than a driving event. It is an opportunity to strengthen friendships, share experiences, and create lasting memories with fellow Porsche enthusiasts. While minor schedule refinements may occur as plans are finalized, rest assured that every detail, from route selection to dining arrangements, is being carefully prepared to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for everyone.

This is a driving event, not a Bingo-night! You MUST RSVP at WTRPCA.ORG to attend this event.

RADIO

Please remember to bring a radio (2-way radio / walkie-talkie / FRS radio) with you to the event — even if you think you won’t need it. Radios are a key safety and coordination tool during our drives.

A popular and affordable option is the BaoFeng UV-5R (8-watt) with the extended 1800mAh battery, which can be found for under $40 on Amazon. Other recommended models include the Radioddity FS-T1 and the Midland LXT630VP3.

Radio Channel / Frequency

  • We will be using Channel 5.0 / Frequency 462.662 MHz

If you are using a BaoFeng UV-5R and are unable to program or access frequency 462.662, please let us know before the drive starts. Step-by-step instructions on the full event's program pdf.

Why We Use a Single Channel
We have been asked whether each driving group could use a different channel. While there are some advantages to that approach, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.

Keeping everyone on the same channel allows:

  • Clear communication when groups are departing parking lots
  • Real-time updates from groups ahead regarding road conditions, delays, or hazards
  • Friendly alerts, including law enforcement presence on the route
  • Better overall situational awareness across the event

To avoid confusion, always announce your group number before speaking (for example: “Group 3, slowing for traffic”). Once on the road, groups naturally space out, and radio overlap becomes minimal.

In short: one channel keeps things safer, smoother, and more organized for everyone.

EVENT ENTRY FEE ($85 per car)

If you've attended one of our weekend events before, you know how much effort we put into making each experience smooth and memorable for everyone.
